This will give the platform a more “real-time” feel.
Threads, a Sports Platform
The social network Threads announced last week an exciting proposition for all sports fans. According to Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s announcement, the platform will start broadcasting “live sports scores”. The first sport to benefit from this new feature will be NBA basketball.
In practice, this initiative translates into a very simple and intuitive use. During a game, users will simply need to search for their favorite teams and see the live score. Similarly, once the game is over, the search will display the final score. Additionally, they can also find the time of the next match by searching for it in advance.
This approach is reminiscent of how X operates. In fact, since 2017, this platform has been displaying live sports scores.
Enhanced Interaction
Sports information on Threads goes beyond just displaying scores. In fact, each score will be associated with the logos of the two teams. By clicking on these logos, users will be redirected to a discussion about that team.
The photo-sharing social network Instagram, owned by the same company, recently decided to stop recommending political content. Therefore, it makes sense that Threads also wants to adjust its approach and aims to “capture the real-time atmosphere” of a trendy social network by focusing on sports.
Competition and Innovations
Threads’ decision to venture into the sports realm comes at a time when other similar platforms have also focused on sports. Recently, Apple announced its own sports initiative by offering real-time statistics for several major leagues, including the NBA, in its Sports app for iPhone.
Beyond this sports novelty, Threads also announced last week a new system to adjust algorithms by swiping left and right on posts. A beta version allowing users to share content on Mastodon and other fediverse services was also introduced.
