Transferring your data from one device to a new one is relatively simple today. Samsung further simplifies the process with its Smart Switch app. Here’s everything you need to know.
Next time you need to transfer all your data to a new Samsung device, know that Samsung Smart Switch will make the process even easier. Upgrading to a new device like the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra will be easier than ever. This downloadable app makes it easy to connect two devices together and transfer contacts, photos, messages, files, and more to the new device. The South Korean giant introduced this feature to make it easier for users to transfer their data to their new Galaxy device, allowing them to pick up right where they left off on the old one.
To use Samsung Smart Switch, you first need to download the application. Android users can download it from the Google Play Store, Mac users from the App Store, and PC users through the Samsung Smart Switch Hub.
Once installed, you have several options to refine how you want to transfer your data. You can transfer them via Wi-Fi (wirelessly) or do it with a USB cable between the two devices. There’s even an option to transfer data from your PC or Mac to your new phone.
If you’re using USB or Wi-Fi, you’ll need the Samsung Smart Switch app installed on both devices. Then, go to Settings > Accounts and Backup on your phone, then tap “Restore data from an old device” on the new phone. This will trigger the process; from there, follow the prompts to complete the transfer.
If you’re doing the operation on a PC or Mac, install the Samsung Smart Switch app on your computer and connect your old phone via a USB cable. Select “Allow” to complete the connection, then click Backup to transfer the data from your phone to your computer. Once the process is complete, plug in your new device, then click Restore. This will restore all the data to the new device.
What Data Is Transferred by Smart Switch?
Samsung states that most app data will be transferred when using the application. Additionally, apps downloaded from the Google Play Store, contacts, photos, and videos will be transferred. Videos transferred to a Galaxy device from an iOS device will require a third-party player to be played, as iOS devices store videos in a .mov format which is not compatible with the native Samsung player.
Furthermore, app data may not be transferred if it is encrypted. Authentication information will need to be manually re-entered once the transfer is complete.
