How to Duplicate iPhone Screen on a TV

The iPhone allows you to mirror the entire screen to display it on a larger device. This is done through the Apple AirPlay protocol and can be very practical. Here’s how to take advantage of it.

If you want to show any content – photos, memes, maps, videos, etc. – on your iPhone to multiple people in the same room, gathering around the phone’s small screen or passing the iPhone around is not the best method. Instead, you can use the screen mirroring feature via AirPlay to display what you see on your iPhone on the much larger screen of a TV.

The Apple AirPlay 2 protocol allows you to stream video or audio from your iPhone, iPad, or Mac to your TV or speakers and duplicate your device’s screen on a larger screen. You only need your iPhone and an Apple TV or AirPlay-compatible smart TV (major manufacturers, including LG, Roku, Samsung, Sony, and Vizio support AirPlay 2).

First, make sure that your iPhone and your Apple TV or AirPlay-compatible TV are connected to the same wireless network. Then, open the iPhone Control Center by swiping down from the upper right corner of the screen, then tapping on Screen Mirroring (the two interlocking rectangles) and selecting your TV.

You may need to enter the code displayed on your TV on your iPhone. Once the connection is established, you will see a checkmark next to your TV in the Screen Mirroring list.

When you want to stop duplicating the screen, go to the Control Center > Screen Mirroring and tap on Stop Mirroring. If you are using AirPlay via an Apple TV, you can also press the Menu button on the remote control to stop sharing.

Reminder: once you have enabled Screen Mirroring, everything you do on your iPhone is visible on the TV screen. You can use your device as you normally do, but be careful if you have things that others should not see.
