OFGB helps change the necessary settings to disable ads from the Start menu and other “features”.
Advertisements – whether it’s just prompting you to do something profitable for Microsoft or sometimes paid ads – show up everywhere in Windows 11. Start menu ads will be rolled out to all users sometime this month, appearing as “Recommended” apps that you haven’t installed. Ads also briefly appeared in the file explorer, although this was unintentional. There are also calls to action on the lock screen and in the settings app. Quite a mess.
This app allows you to easily and for free block ads on Windows 11
We have previously discussed methods to manually disable ads in Windows 11, but this mainly involves spending time in the operating system settings. If you don’t want to do that, an application called OFGB can do it for you. This free and open-source app allows you to quickly and simply modify various registry keys to disable these ads – all you have to do is click on checkboxes -.
To get started, simply download the latest version of the app from GitHub. There are two versions – a lightweight one that only works if you already have .NET 8.0 and a heavier one with integrated .NET -. Choose the one you need.
With OFGB, get rid of ads in a few clicks
Open the application and you will see a number of checkboxes to disable different features. This ranges from ads in the file explorer to those on the lock screen, including “Suggested Content” in the Settings app, as well as general tips while using Windows, the Windows “Welcome Experience,” the tracking tool that enables “more personalized” ads, the “Tailored Experience” feature that tracks your web browsing to suggest products, and the “Recommended” ads that appear in the Start menu.
There are a lot of elements to disable just to have a clean operating system, but with this app, at least all these settings are in one place!
