Dead Boy Detectives, Neil Gaiman’s latest work to be adapted into a Netflix series, underwent several changes compared to the original comic book. First created in the comic Sandman in 1991, Edwin Paine and Charles Rowland, the Dead Boy Detectives, found a new life on Netflix. However, the series altered the story to cater to a more mature audience.

Introduction of Crystal Palace

One of the most significant changes is the introduction of Crystal Palace. In the comic book, Crystal is saved from an explosion by Charles and Edwin. In the series, Crystal, possessed by a powerful demon, is saved by Edwin and Charles who expel the demon from her body, but it erases much of her memory.

Change in Characters’ Ages

In the comic book, Crystal, Edwin, and Charles are very young, giving their story a quite dark tone. In the series, the characters are much older, probably at the end of their teenage years.

In the comic book, the story primarily takes place in the United Kingdom. In the Netflix series, the story starts in the UK, but one of the boys’ early cases takes them to America, to a small town called Port Townsend.
