Square Enix Breaks Silence on Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake
The highly anticipated remake of Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D by Square Enix is starting to unveil more details. Announced three years ago, the renowned Japanese publisher has finally revealed the platforms on which the long-awaited game will be available.
A Flurry of Platforms for This Remake
From Nintendo Switch to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (via Steam), fans of this legendary Japanese RPG saga will have a wide choice. Thanks to the innovative use of HD-2D technology, pioneered with Octopath Traveler, Square Enix is breathing new life into its most iconic franchises.
Towards a Visual Renewal
This remake promises to be a true rejuvenation for the original 1988 release. According to the “2021 Reveal Trailer,” the HD-2D engine promises to give Dragon Quest 3 a serious visual upgrade, nearly three decades after the original game was released.
An Imminent Release?
The Square Enix announcement suggests that the remake’s launch is near. Yuji Horii, the series creator, has indeed confirmed that he is currently testing the game. With the Summer Game Fest fast approaching, more information could be revealed very soon.
It is also worth noting that alongside this announcement, Square Enix has provided a minor update on the next main installment, Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate. While no release date has been announced, Horii has reaffirmed his commitment to honoring the legacy of Akira Toriyama and Koichi Sugiyama, iconic figures of the Dragon Quest series.
