CBS has revealed a teaser for the TV series NCIS: Origins featuring American actor Austin Stowell in the role of Leroy Jethro Gibbs.
A First Look at NCIS: Origins
NCIS: Origins will showcase Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ early days as a new special agent at the nascent NCIS office at Camp Pendleton, where he earns a spot on a diverse team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks. This new series will bring back actor Mark Harmon, known for his role as Gibbs, to the world of CBS police dramas. However, this time he will not only lend his voice for narration but also serve as the show’s executive producer.
Austin Stowell to Portray Young Gibbs
The role of young Gibbs has been given to Austin Stowell. He will portray the beloved character during his years under the command of Mike Franks. The teaser, released by CBS via TV Promos, offers a glimpse into Gibbs’ story within the agency.
Mark Harmon, a Presence Still Possible
Even though Mark Harmon has stepped down from his Gibbs role in NCIS, the series creators maintain that the door is always open for him. Therefore, he may make an appearance at any time. Furthermore, there are currently no concrete plans for his return to the main series, but this could change with NCIS: Origins.
A Highly Anticipated Prequel Series
The format of NCIS: Origins is similar to that of Young Sheldon, where adult Sheldon, played by Jim Parsons, narrates the events of each episode. The series is set to debut in the fall of 2024, during CBS’s upcoming TV season.
What Do We Think?
Mark Harmon’s return, even as a narrator and executive, is excellent news for NCIS fans. Austin Stowell has a challenging task ahead in taking on the role of Gibbs, but his undeniable talent should help him meet this challenge. This prequel series is a great opportunity to rediscover the character of Gibbs and understand how he became the star investigator we know today.
